- Background: HIPK3 (Homeodomain Interacting Protein Kinase 3) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in the regulation of gene transcription induced by steroid hormones such as testosterone. Also known as ANPK (Androgen receptor-interacting nuclear protein kinase), it amplifies androgen receptor-mediated transcription. The kinase phosphorylates transcription factors JUN and RNUX2 and may decrease apoptosis through phosphorylation of FADD (FAS-associated death domain protein).
