  • Gene Name: GCNT2
  • Other Names: N-acetyllactosaminide beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyl-transferase, isoform A, N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase, I-branching enzyme, IGNT, GCNT2, GCNT5, II, NACGT1
  • Availability: 2 weeks
  • Bio Background: This gene encodes the enzyme responsible for formation ofthe blood group I antigen. The i and I antigens are distinguishedby linear and branched poly-N-acetyllactosaminoglycans,respectively. The encoded protein is the I-branching enzyme, abeta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase responsible for theconversion of fetal i antigen to adult I antigen in erythrocytesduring embryonic development. Mutations in this gene have beenassociated with adult i blood group phenotype. Alternativelyspliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have beendescribed.
