Ganglioside GM1 (ovine) (ammonium salt)

Cayman Chemical

Thumbnail image

DESCRIPTION

A mixture of ganglioside GM1 species isolated from ovine brain with primarily C18:0 fatty acyl chain lengths, among various others; enriched in lipid rafts; associates with growth factor receptors and is required for TrkA expression on the cell surface; interacts with other proteins to increase calcium influx, affecting various calcium-dependent processes, including inducing neuronal outgrowth during differentiation; acts as a receptor for cholera toxin and the heat-labile enterotoxin from E. coli; accumulates in neurons in ganglioside GM1 gangliosidosis; levels are decreased in the substantia nigra pars compacta in postmortem brain from patients with Parkinson’s disease
