Increased Efficiency by Certus Technology: Technical and Competency Assessment Using AI

Certus Technology provides their expertise in software solutions to healthcare and life sciences industries.

TACT Technology

Case Study: Certus Technology’s TACT Technology

Challenges: Certus Technology partnered with UK NEQAS for Blood Transfusion Laboratory Practice (BTLP) to help tackle three challenges: understand the essence of competency assessment and how it differs from knowledge assessment, design an online system capable of competency assessment in the blood transfusion laboratory context, and build a partnership with BTLP to deliver online competency assessment services to its client laboratories.

Solutions: Certus Technology came up with the solution of a virtual Blood Transfusion Laboratory delivered online, automated construction of realistic blood testing scenarios, adiagrammatic design tool shared with the customer, a content management system to maintain scenario resources, automated assessment of user performance, laboratory and user level performance dashboards, and a long term partnership between BTLP and Certus to deliver the service.

Results: They were able to achieve an efficient system of competency assessment in blood transfusion laboratory practice, hundreds of registered laboratories and thousands of individual users, a new revenue stream creating a sustainable business model for the service and an innovation award from the Royal College of Pathologists.

How It Works

Certus Technology developed the TACT platform, leveraging AI to provide online competence assessment and training systems through scenario-based interactions. With a TACT-based assessment system, users engage with real-world scenarios tailored to their professional environment, with their performance automatically evaluated. TACT Technology employs AI to replicate authentic real-world situations, offering a spectrum of customizable scenarios ranging from routine tasks to complex and rare situations. These scenarios utilize various resources, such as video clips or plain text, stored in a content management system accessible to system administrators. The volume of available resources directly correlates with the diversity of scenarios offered.

Key Features

  • Automatic AI driven scenario generation with random variations
  • Probabilistic control over the incidence of any aspect of generated scenarios
  • A vast range of generated scenarios from the routine to the highly complex
  • Performance dashboards for both users and team leaders
  • Particular utility in organisations certified against ISO competency standards such as ISO15189
  • Video, 3D virtual worlds and document based scenarios
