R&D in Dermatology With AntalGenics

Labs Explorer on April 5, 2019

Dermatology is still a young field in the global history of medicine. The most common skin diseases like psoriasis or eczema can’t be cured, only treated during a flare-up. Which is why companies like AntalGenics are important in this field. AntalGenics is a Spanish lab that specializes in R&D for the cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical fields. We interviewed Maria Jose Lopez, Marketing and Business Developer there.

Tell us more about you?

I hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience although because I was also interested in Communication Sciences and Marketing, I decided to redirect my career to a marketing-related strategy position.

My job at AntalGenics is focused on giving the company the visibility that it deserves. We have a staff of very talented people that care about science, we give 100 percent every day to provide the best quality service in R&D.

About your lab, what is its history, its mission?

AntalGenics is a biotech company founded in 2015 and led by the curiosity of three professors from the University Miguel Hernandez in Elche (Alicante, Spain).

We benefit from four R&D programs, and we are part of a network of four labs. Our staff has more than 15 years of experience in the design and discovery of new bioactive molecules.

Our mission is to take advantage of our know-how in sensory neurobiology, and in the design, validation, and development of compounds for the treatment of skin pathologies and for skin care.

AntalGenics aims to be a reference in the design, discovery, and development of innovative products in dermatology for the pharmaceutical industry and the cosmetics industry.

What services does your lab offer?

AntalGenics provides customized R&D services by designing and developing projects according to the client’s needs. We offer the technology and knowledge for both the execution of competitive projects and generating intellectual property rights within the cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical world.

Our customized research service comprises a complex process from the design of new molecules and/or the identification of new molecular targets, up to the validation stage of the active ingredient.

We commit ourselves to develop high-quality products and to guarantee their efficacy by providing a well-characterized molecular mechanism of action, validated with specific state-of-the-art techniques for each project.

We offer three interconnected platforms to meet the requirements of the entire product development process: Sensory Biology platform, High-Throughput Screening platform, and Molecular Modeling platform.

These scientific platforms allow us a full development capacity to deliver high-quality active ingredients within the cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical field.

What sets your expertise apart from others?

AntalGenics offers integrated R&D services that combine our expertise in sensory neurobiology, molecule design, high-throughput screening and validation with the state-of-the-art technologies required for each project.

We provide customized R&D services adapted to the client’s needs.

We are specialists in silicon design and discovery of molecules, automatized methods to test thousands of compounds in vitro and in final validation of the best candidates’ efficacy. We employ complex skin models and simplified neuronal models in order to validate compounds in different neuronal contexts, altered or physiological, that may occur in the skin.

What challenges are you willing to address in the near future?

We have two lines of internal product development focused on sensory neuron environment present in the skin:

In our pharmaceutical line, we are in the phase of development of drugs to treat osteoarthritic pain and psoriasic pruritus.

In our cosmeceutical line, we are also in the validation phase of active ingredients to be used in cases of sensitive skin and pruritus.

In the near future, we will finish our final preclinical phases of internal product validation, and start to commercialize them in order to have in the market quality products based on scientific innovation that will alleviate chronic itch (pruritus), osteoarthritic pain and sensitive skin.

What do you expect from Scientist?

At AntalGenics we would like to expand our boundaries, to do that we have joined Scientist with the idea to show our services and capabilities in research and development.

We would love to exchange ideas with other members of the community, to detect collaboration opportunities and to be known as a quality reference in customized R&D services provider.
