Top 10 Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) Services

Labs Explorer on January 11, 2018

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is the resonance of a plasmon wave that occurs when a light wave is sent to a metallic surface. When the surface plasmon wave interacts with a local irregularity such as a molecule, it can re-emit the energy as light. By analyzing the emitted light behind the metallic surface, it is possible to detect molecular interactions by fixing receptors on the metallic surface.

This phenomenon was used to improve the surface sensitivity for several spectroscopic measurements such as fluorescence, Raman scattering and second harmonic generation.

SPR is widely used in biochemistry to detect biomolecular interactions. It is applied to analyze the binding of proteins, peptides, DNA, RNA, aptamers, small molecules, and more. With SPR you can obtain data on the specificity of the ligand, the concentration, the kinetics and the affinity of the binding.

It is notably applied to immunoassays because of advantages such as:

  • SPR doesn’t require labeling reagents, which can be costly
  • It is a fast technique that thus enables real-time analysis
  • Any compound can be detected by SPR
  • It is possible to do the analysis with small volume sample around microliter.

SPR is a powerful technique which can be applied to a wide range of biomolecules. It often takes time to find the surface plasmon resonance service which corresponds to your needs. Here you can find a selection of services which can be useful for you.
