Scientist Raises Series B Funds to Grow ‘Science as a Service’ Platform

Sean Preci on March 25, 2014

SAN DIEGO – Scientist Inc., the world’s leading marketplace for scientific services today announced that it raised $3 million in Series B financing. Bootstrap Venture Fund a venture capital fund that specializes in IT businesses in the life sciences space led the round. The funds will be used to drive continued growth of Scientist’s innovative research sourcing platform which is already used by scientists in over 100 countries.

“Scientist is fundamentally changing how scientific research is sourced and managed” said Kyle Williams General Partner of Bootstrap Venture Fund. “By simplifying access to experts and services the company is dramatically lowering barriers to scientific innovation and ushering in a new cost-effective approach to research.”

Often referred to as “Amazon.com for scientists” Scientist is the only online marketplace that allows anyone to source research services quickly efficiently and at no cost. Scientist also hosts a network of private research marketplaces that connects scientists inside large pharmaceutical companies with experts at 9000 global research suppliers (aka CROs). Each private research marketplace serves as an end-to-end vendor relationship management (VRM) system that can be used to capture scientist feedback in the form of ratings and reviews.

“Scientist is using the power of the Internet to create a new model for scientific research” said Kevin Lustig Ph.D. Scientist’s CEO. “By making it possible for anyone to order any service on demand we enable entire research projects to be carried out without direct access to a laboratory. Scientists can now create and run multiple complex experiments in parallel.”
