Obtain an optical readout of active proteases in complex biological samples.
These "smart molecules" trap active protease biomarkers within a complex biological sample and enable a visual readout of biomarker presence. This process involves the use of synthetic organic dyes that coat the surface of native preformed protein complexes, rendering the surface protease-resistant. As a result, only those peptides buried within unmodified “hot spot” regions undergo analysis by MS, enabling scientists to delineate precise amino acid sequences at the binding interface between proteins.
