Sunnybrook Research Institute’s Toshiba Aquilion One computed tomography (CT) scanner is a state-of-the-art imaging system used to evaluate structure and function within the human body and animal models. Research at this facility involves development of the basic physics and engineering underlying CT technology, and includes clinically motivated imaging studies involving volunteers and preclinical studies that enhance knowledge toward improving health care. The facility accommodates a wide variety of scientific projects, usually performed in collaboration with SRI investigators. It operates on a cost-recovery basis through the collection of user fees.
Research at this facility is predominately conducted by researchers in Physical Sciences and their collaborators. There are also a smaller number of CT users who use the facility independent of Physical Sciences collaborations, or in their role as support personnel in the labs of collaborating scientists. Users must meet the CT research operator training requirements.
