The Faculty of Medicine’s ‘Common Equipment and Technical Core Facility’ was established to optimize technical resources and common ‘shared’ equipment within the Departments of BMI and CMM. The Core Facility encompasses infrastructure and technical services from both of these departments in an attempt to meet the research needs of investigators and students. It is operated by a team of 4 Technical Officers who are committed to providing quality technical assistance to faculty members and research personnel. In addition, the technical staff aims to manage and maintain the common equipment at its optimal level of performance.
Most laboratories do not own the type of equipment that constitute the basic framework of the Core Facility, therefore, operating and maintaining a Common Equipment Core with ‘shared’ equipment that is in a state of operational readiness and peak performance is essential to the efficiency and success of every principal investigator and his/her laboratory members. Researchers therefore, depend and rely on the optimal functionality of these common scientific instruments. The equipment provided by the Core Facility allows research personnel the opportunity to use a wide variety of equipment that is well maintained, eliminating the need to purchase and maintain these pieces within individual labs.
The ‘Common Equipment and Technical Core Facility’ can be separated into two distinctive categories:
The Technical Core Services which refer to technical assistance and services provided by the technical staff.
