Headquarters:
New Orleans, LA, US
Company Type:
Academic Core Facility

The Bioenergetics Core presently includes an XFe 24 Extracellular Flux Analyzer (Seahorse Biosciences, North Billerica, MA). The instrument is accessible to the investigators of the School of Medicine. Interested investigators or their trainees will be provided training in using the instrument and analyzing the data.

XFe 24 Extracellular Flux Analyzer simultaneously measures the two major energy producing pathways of the cell, mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis, in a microplate, in real-time. The XFe24 Analyzers, stress test kits, and reagents can determine in vitro oxygen consumption, glycolysis, CO2, mitochondrial dysfunction, and fatty acid oxidation.

The fast and sensitive measurement of cellular bioenergetics with XF is label-free, enabling time-resolved analysis and the reuse of the cells. XF assays provide increased throughput in a drug discovery format. By incorporating low-cost, disposable fluorescent optical sensors, multiplexed fiber optics and highly integrated electronic components – XFe instruments offer scientists the ability to:

Perform time-resolved measurements of a single population of cells over a period of minutes, hours or even days.
XFe24 Analyzer simultaneously measures oxygen consumption rate (OCR), and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR).
Reuse cell samples after completing an XF measurement.
XFe 24 stress test kits and regents provide a standardized means to perform XF assays quickly to ensure reliable and reproducible data.
More information about the instrument, applications and references are available at the official website of Seahorse Bioscience.
