Our Mission
The mission of the Genome Editing Core Facility (GECF) at Rutgers is to provide expertise and assistance in the development and production of genetically modified mouse models that can serve as in vivo models for addressing a wide variety of biological questions.
It is our goal to offer the highest quality services possible at reasonable prices to our scientific community. We apply strict conditions to keep our facility specific pathogen free and to provide a barrier environment for the housing of the transgenic mice.
About Us
In 2015 the Transgenic/Knock-out Mouse (TG/KO) Shared Resource was renamed the Genome Editing Core Facility (GECF). GECF is now a University core facility led by Rutgers Office of Research and Economic Development under the Office of Research Advancement (ORAd). GECF also functions as an NCI-designated cancer center resource with joint scientific and administrative/fiscal oversight with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The GECF serves as one of America’s largest, most comprehensive university-based research centers. The GECF’s main facility is located in New Brunswick with a satellite site in Newark. Its main focus is to provide expertise and technical services required to manipulate the genomes of animals utilizing CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing and, eventually, genome editing of various cell lines including human cells. Standard services such as mouse embryonic stem cell manipulation, in vitro fertilization, embryo or sperm cryopreservation, mouse rederivation, genotyping and breeding services are also available.
