The Prince Edward County Cannery has been in operation for home canning since 1975 and is located at 7916 Abilene Road near Hampden-Sydney College. Effective 2010, and with grant funding from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission, the Prince Edward Cannery has been retrofitted to become the Prince Edward Cannery and Commercial Kitchen. This allows Commercial Businesses access to the facility, ultimately promoting local food processing in the region. Virginia Food Works manages the Cannery, providing information and supervision to whatever extent that a client may need.
