The issues facing the majority of rural businesses are common to most SMEs but those affecting land-based industries are intrinsically inter-disciplinary with management challenges that encompass business, biological, environmental and social components. It is this inherent interdisciplinarity that forms the bedrock for the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Sustainability (CARS).
