Our insectary produces five rodent malaria stocks weekly and will ship live sporozoite infected Anopheles stephensi to investigators for research use. Only the five BSL-1 level rodent malaria species listed below are available.
Plasmodium yoelii 17XNL sporozoites in A. stephensi
Plasmodium yoelii 17XNL-GFP (green fluorescent sporozoites) in A. stephensi
Plasmodium berghei NK65 sporozoites in A. stephensi
Plasmodium berghei ANKA-GFP (green fluorescent sporozoites) in A. stephensi
Plasmodium berghei-Luciferase sporozoites in A. stephensi
Each cage contains a minimum of 150 mosquitoes (typically 200 to 250), with infectivity rates of 90 to 100%. Although the numbers of sporozoites obtained per mosquito are variable from week to week, typical yields are 30,000 to 40,000 P. yoelii sporozoites or 10,000 to 20,000 P. berghei sporozoites per mosquito. Mosquito cages will be shipped under UN2900 guidelines. Charges will be paid by recipient laboratories. Return of the empty shipping biosafety suitcase to New York University is also required. If you are interested in ordering infected mosquitoes, please contact Ana Rodriguez in advance.
Due to prohibitive transportation and regulatory permit guidelines governing the shipping of live animal vectors, we are only able to provide these live sporozoite-infected A. stephensi mosquito stocks to investigators within the domestic United States.
