The Mayo Clinic Metabolomics Core supports medical researchers with cutting-edge mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques for detection and quantitation of metabolites, the small molecules found in biological fluids and tissue extracts. The Core maintains a diverse collection of instrumentation, including 14 mass spectrometry systems coupled to gas chromatography or liquid chromatography systems. Four NMR systems provide standardized metabolomics screening and in vivo measurements. The Metabolomics Core operates as a fee-for-service laboratory, but the core staff often contributes its expertise to projects as needed. The Core provides both Mayo Clinic and external investigators with metabolomics quantification, analysis and research support that falls into 4 major categories: Untargeted Metabolomics, Targeted Metabolite Quantitation, Isotope Ratio Measurements, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Specialties.
