Description: Taitung Animal Propagation Station (TAPS) is the swine research unit of Livestock Research Institute (LRI) in Taiwan. In 1980, the indigenous miniature pig breed, Lanyu, was introduced for medical usage as laboratory animal. After decades of inbreeding selection, four minipig breeds have been established, and were officially registered in sequence on Year 2003, 2008 and 2011. TAPS is not only the minipig research unit that takes charge of conservation and selection of minipig breeds, but also serving as the supplier of minipig and porcine tissue to academic units for biomedical research.
