King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Department of Infection and Immunity
The Department of Infection Control & Environmental Health is comprised of Infection Control professionals (ICPs) whose main task is the provision of an adequate infection surveillance program based on published definitionsofhealth-careassociatedinfectionsand appropriate to the services offered. Interventions to control or reduce transmission of contagious microorganisms, both community-acquired and hospital acquired, is accomplished through identification,segregation,andtreatment of infectious patients. The ICPs work with the Medical Director of Infection Control and the Microbiology section of the Clinical Laboratory.
Expertise
Three Infectious Disease Consultants manage the department.
Senior Infectious Disease Consultants with special training in medical microbiology and wide experience with Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI).
Hospital Epidemiologist who is a pediatric infectious diseases consultant with a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH).
Pediatric Infectious Diseases consultant with special training in medical mycology and interest in infection in the immuno-compromised host.
The senior coordinator of infection control who is a registered nurse with MPH and certification in Infection Control (CIC) supervises the program.
All staff has minimum BS degree, one with Master’s in Microbiology.
