The Kansas State University Herbarium is a research natural history museum of dried plant specimens numbering approximately 200,000. The collection has a regional focus on the Great Plains of central North America, and is particularly significant for its historical holdings from the late 1800s.
The mission of the Kansas State University Herbarium is to:

document plant diversity over space and time, and preserve specimen resources into the future;
facilitate basic and applied collections-based research (taxonomic, floristic and other);
enhance teaching of plant systematics;
serve as a source of plant taxonomic information to applied workers and the general public.
The Herbarium has a focus on the flora of the central Great Plains, and use of the research facility to advance our understanding of regional biodiversity is encouraged.
