The mission of the Advanced Biomedical IT Core (ABITC) is to support biomedical and health-related researchers throughout Indiana University – particularly researchers doing basic biomedical research, translational research, and clinical research (including researchers using electronic personal health information as part of their research data).
ABITC is one of many Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (IndianaCTSI) Service Cores at the IU School of Medicine (IUSM). ABITC is a management unit of the Research Technologies division of UITS, and was the first organization outside of the IU School of Medicine to be formally recognized as an IUSM core facility. ABITC provides information technology solutions to problems confronted by health care research labs, partner in innovative approaches to medical research through consulting and programming staff of the Core, and enable researchers in IUSM and allied health fields to make use of the full capability and breadth of IU’s advanced cyberinfrastructure. In particular, ABITC helps researchers in Health Care and related sciences use IU’s advanced cyberinfrastructure and overcome the challenges of:
Need for massive computational power and data storage tools
Need for robust and scalable applications for data management and analysis
Need for repositories for participation in national consortia
Securing electronic protected health information (ePHI)
Visualization of data or biological processes
