Indiana University School of Optometry offers a unique collaboration of clinical and didactic teaching, graduate teaching in Vision Science, with its many cutting-edge research endeavors. With the tremendous support of the legendary Dr. Irv Borish and his family, and named in recognition for his accomplishments as a clinician-scientist in the advancement of our profession, the Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research (BCOR) supports the research endeavors of the School of Optometry. Specifically, it welcomes collaborative partners from private practice, universities, industry, and private agencies to join together to work on important questions related to our mission.

The mission of the Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research is to support and facilitate the investigation of methods to improve the ocular health and advance the visual performance of patients around the world. The BCOR aims to accomplish this by investigating and developing novel optical devices and corrections to enhance visual performance, and disease diagnostic and treatment strategies that can be translated directly to clinical care.

The center’s goals are:

To foster an environment that encourages multidisciplinary approaches to identifying and solving vision problems.
To promote strong working relationships with Indiana University, government agencies, industry, professional organizations, practitioners, and the public.
To develop a leading clinical vision research center that attracts scholars and researchers from around the world.
To provide an arena for the education of clinical researchers in vision and the training of vision science graduate students, residents, and fellows, as well as optometry students.
To provide an infrastructure of shared equipment, technical knowledge, and expertise that promotes innovative and challenging clinical investigations, allowing feasibility studies or clinical trials on short notice or for long durations.
