The Environmental Bioinorganic Chemistry Laboratory (EBCL) is a research group directed by Dr. Yong Cai within the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Southeast Environmental Research Center (SERC) at Florida International Unviersity (FIU). Our work is in the field of environmental bioinorganic chemistry, biogeochemistry, and bioanalytical chemistry. Our research program in this laboratory addresses many interrelated, molecular-level questions regarding the environmental fate and health effect of biomedically and environmentally important metals, including metalloids, such as mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As).

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation which forms Bioinorganic and Environmental Analytical Facility (BEAF), a College of Arts and Sciences recharge center managed by our staff. In addtion to provide close supports to the research program in our laboratory, the Facility can provide fee-based service for the scientific community, both within and outside the university.
