The Center for Viticulture and Small Fruit Research at Florida A&M University (FAMU) was established by the Florida legislature in 1978 in accordance with Senate Bill No. 898 identified as the “Florida Viticulture Policy Act” to provide leadership, undertake research, extension and development activities that will contribute to industry growth and development. It is an integral component of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

The Center carries research, extension and graduate student training in the area of grape genetics and breeding, vineyard best management practices and product development, grape biotechnology and small fruit evaluation and production methods.

FAMU joined the NCPNG in 2010. The Southeastern Vine Improvement and Distribution Program at the Center for Viticulture and Small Fruit Research is a clean plant center that offers pathogen-testing, disease elimination therapy and a 4.5 acre vineyard containing economically important muscadine (Vitis rotundifolia) and Florida native hybrid varieties. The center services the viticulture industry in Florida and the southeastern United States.
