Preliminary Statement – Importance of Microirrigation:
Since the 70’s, micro irrigation as a technology has matured into a reliable water and fertilization management system for crop production.
The usage of micro irrigation is increasing, especially in arid and semi-arid regions as an effective water conservation measure.
The micro irrigated area grew from 1.1 million ha in 1986 to about 3.0 million ha in 2000.
Micro irrigation today: more than 70 countries covering an area of over 6 million ha.
The challenge for 2050 is how to feed 9 billion people without consuming more water. Think smart and apply high efficiency fertilizers to enhance productivity with optimal nutrient supply.
VISION
“The goal” of the fertigation center of competence is to develop further and deeper knowledge in the defined areas, and to connect with the key participants in order to focus on practical challenges, customers needs & alliances.
