Epistem is a Manchester, UK-based contract research organisation (CRO) providing pre-clinical and clinical models, platforms, and services. Pre-clinical services encompass both in vitro and in vivo models within inflammatory diseases (particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and GI toxicities), oncology/oncology supportive care and dermatological conditions. Epistem also offers organoid models for toxicity testing in several species, to complement in vivo studies.

The histology and image analysis service develops both labelling protocols and quantification techniques for pre-clinical and clinical use (GCLP compliant biomarker support). The pharmacogenomics service provides PCR and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) with accompanying bioinformatic analysis, providing both discovery and clinical biomarker services. Additionally, Epistem has pioneered the use of scalp hair as a surrogate tissue for clinical drug response monitoring & biomarker analysis (both IHC and gene expression).
