Today, Doheny Eye Institute serves thousands of patients in and around Los Angeles and worldwide and undertakes basic and clinical research that yields vision-saving discoveries.
Carrie Estelle Doheny was married to prominent Los Angeles entrepreneur and oilman Edward L. Doheny. The Doheny family continues their support of Doheny Eye Institute. In 2015, Doheny Eye Institute formally honored the memory of another Doheny family member, Onnalee Doheny, who passed away in 2013. Onnie, as she was known to everyone, was an Honorary Luminaire Founder. The women who volunteer as Doheny Luminaires are another part of what makes Doheny Eye Institute a special place. Over the past 40 years, this group of women has raised millions of dollars to support the research of Doheny Eye Institute scientists.
