This machine shop was established in 1970 as part of Biomedical Instrumentation Services Department. It provided City of Hope Medical and Research Community with design and fabrication services covering fields like mechanical design and fabrication, electronic and optical design, new instrument design and modification.

In 2013, this unit became part of Beckman Research Institute as a Core named Design and Fabrication Lab. The Core provides design and fabrication services. For mechanical design we use AutoCAD 2015 and SolidWorks 2015 for 3D design. We can perform all the basic machining operations like turning, CNC milling, drilling and sheet metal forming.
