Utilizing advanced, patent-pending Nerve-on-a-Chip™ technology, AxoSim facilitates preclinical prediction of neurological safety and efficacy early in the drug development pipeline. Employing micro engineering techniques and novel biomaterials, we utilize a 3D human cell-based model which mimics living tissue in both form and function. Deliverable metrics are both structural and functional, determining changes in nerve fiber density, fiber type, myelination level, myelin thickness, as well as population level electrophysiology. Dose and time dependent effects can be measure in near real-time. By providing a tissue engineered alternative to exploratory animal testing, pharmaceutical companies will have access to high content data faster and earlier than currently possible.
Other services include 2D high content imaging and multi-electrode array services. We have extensive expertise with iPSC and primary neuronal cultures and co-cultures with different glia (Schwann cells, astrocytes, etc.) and can perform dose response assays for neurotoxicity applications. In addition, we have done work with disease lines for neurological diseases, (e.g. ALS SOD1).
