This full service CLIA-approved, CAP-certified Microbiology Laboratory offers various infectious disease diagnostic assays for bacteria, viruses, mycobacteria and fungi. We perform tests for pathogen culture and identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and qualitative and quantitative molecular assays for BK virus, CMV, EBV and adenovirus. The extensive and state of the art test methodologies, such as MALDI-TOF and multiplex molecular pathogen detection, allow us to provide rapid result reporting that effectively supports clinician’s needs for laboratory diagnosis of complex infectious disease conditions.
The Microbiology Laboratory is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and serves Lurie Children’s and several outreach programs. We also support the research and academic missions of the institution through participation in clinical research and in the education of fellows, residents, medical students, and medical technology students.
