Founded in 2002, the Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI) at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is an independent, not-for-profit research and development institute.
Under the direction of Shaker A. Mousa, Ph.D., formerly a senior researcher at DuPont Pharmaceuticals Co., PRI employs a three-pronged business development model. The components of that model are (1) Drug Discovery and Development, (2) Pharmaceutical Services, and (3) Education.
PRI investigators possess expertise in fields that include nanotechnology, biotechnology, medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, and cell biology.
Areas of focus include:
Hematology/oncology
Cardiovascular (dyslipidemia)
Ophthalmology
Vascular
Neurobiology
To further advance its efforts, the Institute collaborates with organizations throughout the world – a list that includes pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as academic and research centers.
As part of its mission, PRI is also engaged in teaching and learning. Pharmacy students, graduate students, and international scholars receive training at the Institute, with their research experience often leading to published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
