The Addenbrooke’s Hospital Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (Tissue Typing) laboratory provides a specialist histocompatibility and immunogenetics service for the East of England region and is part of the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre.

We offer a comprehensive range of molecular and serological techniques to identify Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA), Killer Cell Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor (KIR) typing and immunological sensitisation to HLA. These tests are performed in support of the regional solid organ and stem cell transplant programmes, in the differential diagnosis of HLA associated diseases and in pharmacogenomics (adverse drug reactions).

The laboratory is responsible for the selection of HLA compatible donor and recipient pairs for renal and stem cell transplantation and for HLA typing, HLA specific antibody screening and crossmatching in support of the small intestinal, multi-visceral, hepatic and cardio-thoracic transplant programmes.
